  • Dog Flu: Understanding Canine Influenza and Potential Risks
Yes, dogs can be infected with influenza A viruses (IAVs). Canine influenza viruses (CIVs) have been circulating in dogs for over 80 years, and several CIV strains have caused outbreaks in shelters, boarding facilities, and breeding kennels. These outbreaks have led to respiratory illnesses in infected dogs, and some strains have even been able to cross over to other species, causing respiratory illnesses in cats, humans, and even other wildlife.
