  • Hybrid Hummingbird Plumage: Why Offspring Colors Differ from Parents
Pink and gold are not the same color. Pink is a shade of red, while gold is a shade of yellow. Additionally, hybrid hummingbird feathers do not match those of their parents because the genes that control feather color are not always inherited in a simple dominant-recessive pattern. Instead, the expression of feather color can be influenced by a number of factors, including the interaction of multiple genes, the environment, and random chance.
