  • Stars and Planets: Understanding Biotic vs. Abiotic Celestial Bodies
    Stars and planets are abiotic. Here's why:

    * Biotic refers to living organisms or components of living organisms. They exhibit characteristics like:

    * Growth and development

    * Reproduction

    * Response to stimuli

    * Metabolism

    * Homeostasis

    * Abiotic refers to non-living components of the environment. Stars and planets lack the defining characteristics of life:

    * They do not grow or develop in a biological sense.

    * They do not reproduce.

    * They do not have a metabolism or respond to stimuli.

    While planets can host life, the planets themselves are not alive. Stars are massive balls of hot gas undergoing nuclear fusion, making them very far removed from any definition of life.
