  • Moon Temperature: Extreme Hot & Cold - What's the Range?
The Moon doesn't have a consistent temperature like Earth. Its temperature fluctuates wildly depending on whether it's facing the sun or not.

    Here's a breakdown:

    * High: The hottest temperature on the Moon reaches about 127°C (261°F) during the lunar day, when the sun is shining directly on the surface.

    * Low: The coldest temperature on the Moon drops to -173°C (-279°F) during the lunar night, when the surface is facing away from the sun.

    Why such extreme differences?

The Moon has no atmosphere to speak of, which means there's no insulation to trap heat. This causes massive swings in temperature between the sun-facing side (day) and the shaded side (night).

Note: These temperatures are averages and can vary depending on the location on the Moon and the time of the lunar day.
