  • Crescent Moon Explained: Waxing & Waning Phases
When only a sliver of the Moon's surface is lit, it's called a crescent moon.

There are two types of crescent moons:

    * Waxing crescent: This occurs when the illuminated portion of the Moon is increasing, moving towards a full moon.

    * Waning crescent: This occurs when the illuminated portion of the Moon is decreasing, moving towards a new moon.
