  • Understanding Our Solar System: Planets, Dwarf Planets & the Sun
The solar system is made up of more than just two bodies. Here's a breakdown:

    * The Sun: The star at the center of our solar system, providing light and heat.

    * Planets: There are eight planets in our solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

    * Dwarf Planets: These are celestial bodies that orbit the Sun and are large enough to be rounded by their own gravity, but have not cleared their neighborhood of other objects. Examples include Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Makemake, and Haumea.

    * Moons: Many planets have natural satellites called moons. Earth has one moon, while Jupiter has dozens.

    * Asteroids: Rocky bodies that orbit the Sun, mostly found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

    * Comets: Icy bodies that orbit the Sun, leaving a trail of dust and gas as they approach.

So, while the Sun and the planets are major components, there are many other objects that make up our solar system.
