  • Understanding Atmospheric Humidity: What Meteorologists Measure
Meteorologists refer to the water vapor in the atmosphere as humidity.

Humidity specifically refers to the amount of moisture in the air. There are different ways to measure humidity, including:

    * Absolute humidity: The actual mass of water vapor present in a given volume of air.

    * Relative humidity: The ratio of the amount of water vapor in the air to the maximum amount of water vapor the air can hold at a given temperature.

    * Dew point: The temperature to which air must be cooled to become saturated with water vapor.

So, while the term "water vapor" is technically correct, meteorologists typically use the term "humidity" when discussing the water vapor content in the atmosphere.
