    The brightest star in the northern sky is Sirius.

    While it appears to be in the northern hemisphere, it is actually located in the constellation Canis Major (the Greater Dog), which is in the southern celestial hemisphere. However, because of its brightness, it is visible from most parts of the world, including the northern hemisphere.
