The SFA Observatory, officially known as the McDonald Observatory, was created in 1932.

While the land was acquired in 1926, the observatory wasn't fully operational until 1932, when the first telescope was installed. It's located in the Davis Mountains of West Texas, owned and operated by the University of Texas at Austin.
