  • Saucer-Shaped Clouds: Types, Formation & What You're Seeing
There's no cloud formation called "saucer-shaped" that's recognized in meteorology.

However, several types of clouds *can* appear somewhat saucer-shaped depending on their perspective and the lighting:

    * Lenticular clouds: These are often mistaken for UFOs as they have a smooth, lens or saucer-like shape. They form in stable air, often over mountains, when wind flows over the peak.

    * Mammatus clouds: These are pouch-like formations hanging beneath other clouds like cumulonimbus. They can appear as "saucer-shaped" depending on the angle from which they are viewed.

    * Stratocumulus clouds: These are low-level clouds with rounded masses, which can sometimes have a vaguely saucer-like appearance.

It's important to remember that clouds can appear different depending on the viewing angle, lighting, and the observer's imagination. If you see a "saucer-shaped" cloud, it's likely one of these more common formations, rather than a sign of alien activity.
