  • Sunlight's Electromagnetic Spectrum: Types & Effects
The sun emits a wide range of electromagnetic radiation, but the most prominent forms are:

    * Visible Light: This is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that our eyes can see, giving us the familiar colors of sunlight.

    * Infrared Radiation: This is heat radiation, responsible for warming the Earth.

    * Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation: This is invisible to our eyes but can cause sunburns and other skin damage.

    * X-rays: These are high-energy radiation, and while the sun emits them, they are mostly absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere.

    * Gamma Rays: These are the highest energy radiation emitted by the sun, but they are also mostly absorbed by the atmosphere.

While these are the most prominent, the sun also emits other forms of radiation, like radio waves and microwaves, albeit in smaller quantities.
