  • Arcturus: Finding the Brightest Star in Boötes from the Big Dipper
The bright star you can find by following the handle of the Big Dipper all the way to the constellation Boötes is Arcturus.

It's one of the brightest stars in the night sky and a reddish-orange giant star. You can easily trace a line from the two stars at the end of the Big Dipper's handle (Merak and Dubhe) and extend it about 30 degrees to find Arcturus, the brightest star in Boötes.
