  • The History of Jupiter's Observation: From Ancient Civilizations to Modern Astronomy
    Jupiter has been known since ancient times, so it wasn't "discovered" in the modern sense. It's visible to the naked eye and was observed by ancient civilizations like the Babylonians, Greeks, and Romans.

    While we don't know who first noticed Jupiter, the ancient Babylonian astronomers were some of the earliest known to record its movements, and they named it after their chief god, Marduk.
