Here's why:
* The Sun is our closest star, and it's about 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) away from Earth.
* Stars are massive balls of hot gas that are much, much farther away than our Sun. Even the closest stars outside our solar system are light-years away. A light-year is the distance light travels in a year, which is about 6 trillion miles (9.5 trillion kilometers).
So, while the Sun is our nearest star, it's still much closer to Earth than any other star.
