  • Moon's Atmosphere: What's the Truth About Air on the Moon?
The Moon has an atmosphere, but it's incredibly thin and not breathable, making it essentially a vacuum. Here's why:

    * Very low density: The Moon's atmosphere, called an exosphere, is about 100 billion times thinner than Earth's.

    * Mostly made of gases from the Sun: The Moon's exosphere is composed primarily of helium, neon, and argon, all of which are released from the solar wind and trapped by the Moon's weak gravity.

    * No real weather: The Moon has no weather patterns, rain, or wind.

    * Extreme temperature swings: The thin atmosphere offers no protection from the Sun's radiation, leading to extreme temperature swings between day and night.

So, while there's technically a trace of "air" on the Moon, it's not suitable for human survival.
