  • Red Dwarfs: The Most Common Stars Near the Sun - Explained
The most common kind of star near the Sun is a red dwarf.

    Here's why:

    * Abundance: Red dwarfs are the most numerous type of star in the Milky Way galaxy. They are estimated to make up about 85% of all stars.

    * Low Mass: Red dwarfs are much smaller and less massive than our Sun. This means they burn their fuel much more slowly, making them incredibly long-lived.

    * Proxima Centauri: The closest star to our Sun, Proxima Centauri, is a red dwarf. This further highlights their prevalence in our cosmic neighborhood.

While red dwarfs are common, they are also very faint and difficult to see with the naked eye. That's why we don't see many of them in our night sky!
