Planets and space particles rotate around the Sun in a counter-clockwise direction when viewed from above the Earth's North Pole. This is also referred to as prograde motion.

This is a result of the way the solar system formed from a rotating disk of gas and dust. The majority of objects in the solar system inherited this direction of rotation from the original spinning disk.
