  • Elliptical Orbits: Understanding Orbital Paths and Ellipses
There isn't a specific scientific name for an oval orbit. An oval orbit is simply an elliptical orbit.

    Here's why:

    * Orbit: The path an object takes around another object due to gravity.

    * Ellipse: A closed curve where the sum of the distances from any point on the curve to two fixed points (called foci) is constant.

    * Circular Orbit: A special case of an elliptical orbit where both foci coincide at the center of the circle.

Therefore, an oval orbit is just a more descriptive term for an elliptical orbit where the foci are slightly offset from the center.
