  • Planets in Our Solar System: Types & Characteristics
Here's a list of the planets in our solar system, categorized by type:

    Inner Planets (Terrestrial Planets):

    * Mercury: Rocky, cratered, very hot during the day, extremely cold at night.

    * Venus: Rocky, extremely hot, dense atmosphere, very little water.

    * Earth: Rocky, has liquid water, supports life, moderate temperatures.

    * Mars: Rocky, cold, thin atmosphere, red surface due to iron oxide (rust).

    Outer Planets (Gas Giants):

    * Jupiter: Largest planet, mostly gas (hydrogen and helium), strong magnetic field, has a "Great Red Spot" storm.

    * Saturn: Known for its prominent ring system, also mostly gas (hydrogen and helium).

    * Uranus: Gas giant, tilted on its side, has faint ring system, very cold.

    * Neptune: Gas giant, blue color due to methane in its atmosphere, very windy.

    Bonus:

    * Pluto is now classified as a dwarf planet due to its size and its location in the Kuiper belt.
