He developed the heliocentric model of the solar system in his book *De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium* (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres) published in 1543.
While Copernicus's work was groundbreaking, it took time for the heliocentric model to be widely accepted. It challenged the prevailing geocentric model, which placed the Earth at the center of the universe.
