  • Solar Noon & Insolation: Where is the Sun's Angle Greatest?
The angle of insolation (the angle at which the sun's rays hit the Earth's surface) is greatest at solar noon at the Equator.

    Here's why:

    * Earth's Tilt: The Earth is tilted on its axis at approximately 23.5 degrees. This tilt causes the amount of direct sunlight received by different parts of the Earth to vary throughout the year.

    * Equator's Position: The Equator is the imaginary line that circles the Earth at 0 degrees latitude. It's the only place on Earth that receives direct sunlight year-round.

    * Solar Noon: Solar noon is the time of day when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. At solar noon at the Equator, the sun is directly overhead (at a 90-degree angle).

Important Note: While the Equator receives the greatest angle of insolation at solar noon, the actual amount of sunlight received throughout the year can vary depending on factors like cloud cover and seasonal changes.
