  • Tidal Bore vs. Tsunami: Understanding Ocean Waves
That would be a tidal wave, more commonly known as a tidal bore.

However, it's important to note that:

    * Tidal waves are not caused by the sun and moon's gravity alone. They are primarily caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun on the Earth's oceans, which creates bulges of water known as tides.

    * Tsunamis are also sometimes called "tidal waves" but are a very different phenomenon. Tsunamis are caused by underwater earthquakes or volcanic eruptions and are much more powerful and destructive than normal tides.

So, while the sun and moon's gravity plays a role in creating tides, the term "tidal wave" is often used incorrectly to refer to a tsunami.
