  • Red Dwarf Stars: Why They're Not the Hottest (and What Makes Them Unique)
That's incorrect! Red dwarf stars actually burn the coolest of all stars. Here's why they get their name:

    * Color: They emit a faint reddish light, giving them their name.

    * Temperature: Their surface temperatures are much cooler than larger, brighter stars like our sun.

    * Size: Red dwarfs are the smallest and least massive stars.

Their low temperature and small size are what makes them burn so slowly and have extremely long lifespans, estimated to be trillions of years!
