  • The Sun's True Color: Why It's Not Yellow!
    The sun is actually white.

    Here's why:

    * All colors combined make white: The sun emits light across the entire visible spectrum, including all the colors of the rainbow. When all these colors are combined, they appear white.

    * Atmospheric scattering: The reason we often see the sun as yellow or orange is due to the way the Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight. Blue wavelengths scatter more easily, which is why the sky appears blue. Longer wavelengths like red and yellow scatter less, giving the sun a yellowish or orangish hue, especially at sunrise and sunset when the light has to travel through more atmosphere.

So, while the sun appears yellow or orange to us, it's actually a white star!
