  • LCROSS Mission: Discovery of Hydrogen in Lunar Polar Rocks
The space probe that found hydrogen in rocks on the moon's poles is Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS).

In 2009, LCROSS impacted the Cabeus crater near the moon's south pole, sending up a plume of debris that was analyzed by its companion spacecraft, the Shepherding Spacecraft (SS) . The analysis revealed the presence of water ice and other volatiles, including hydrogen, within the permanently shadowed craters at the moon's poles. This discovery was a significant breakthrough in our understanding of the moon's composition and potential resources.
