While our solar system has eight planets, other solar systems have been discovered with very different numbers of planets. Here's what we know:
* Our solar system is not typical: It's quite possible that most solar systems have more or fewer planets than ours.
* Planet definition is debated: The International Astronomical Union (IAU) defines a planet based on certain criteria. But there are many objects in our own solar system (like Pluto) that might be considered planets by other definitions.
* Exoplanet discoveries are still relatively new: Astronomers are constantly discovering new exoplanets (planets outside our solar system). It's still early days in understanding the typical number of planets in a solar system.
So, the answer is: We don't know for sure! It's likely that there's a wide range in the number of planets that a solar system can have.
