  • The Milky Way's Galactic Home: Exploring the Local Group and Virgo Supercluster
    The Milky Way galaxy is orbiting within the Local Group, a collection of about 54 galaxies gravitationally bound together.

    The Local Group is dominated by two large spiral galaxies:

    * The Milky Way

    * The Andromeda Galaxy

    These two galaxies are the most massive in the Local Group and are slowly moving towards each other.

    The Milky Way and Andromeda are predicted to collide in approximately 4.5 billion years.

    Beyond the Local Group, the Milky Way is part of the Virgo Supercluster, a massive collection of galaxy clusters and groups. The Virgo Supercluster is just one of many superclusters in the observable universe.
