  • Understanding the Sun's Classification: Main Sequence & Mass
The Sun is a main sequence star. It's not classified as low or high mass.

    Here's why:

    * Main Sequence Stars: These stars are fusing hydrogen into helium in their cores, like our Sun. They are stable and spend the majority of their lives in this phase.

    * Low Mass Stars: These stars are significantly smaller and cooler than our Sun. They have much lower masses (less than half the Sun's mass) and burn through their fuel much slower.

    * High Mass Stars: These stars are much larger and hotter than our Sun. They have much larger masses (more than 8 times the Sun's mass) and burn through their fuel much faster.

The Sun's mass falls within the range of a typical main sequence star. It's not particularly small or large, but sits comfortably in the middle.
