  • The Sun's Composition: What's It Made Of?
    The Sun is a giant ball of hot gas, primarily made up of:

    * Hydrogen (H): About 70.6% of the Sun's mass

    * Helium (He): About 27.4% of the Sun's mass

    Other elements present in trace amounts:

    * Oxygen (O)

    * Carbon (C)

    * Neon (Ne)

    * Iron (Fe)

    * Silicon (Si)

    * Magnesium (Mg)

    * Sulfur (S)

    * Nickel (Ni)

    * Calcium (Ca)

    These trace elements make up less than 2% of the Sun's mass.

    The Sun's Energy Source:

    The Sun's energy comes from nuclear fusion reactions in its core. Here, hydrogen atoms are fused together to create helium, releasing a tremendous amount of energy in the process. This process is constantly ongoing, supplying the Sun with its immense power.
