  • Pleiades Star Cluster: Names of Major Stars & Mythology
The Pleiades is a star cluster, not a single star. It's known for its many bright stars, but it doesn't have a single name like our Sun. However, some of its brightest stars have individual names:

    Major Stars in the Pleiades:

    * Alcyone (Eta Tauri): The brightest star in the cluster.

    * Atlas (27 Tauri): Named after the Titan who held up the sky.

    * Electra (17 Tauri): Named after one of the Pleiades sisters in Greek mythology.

    * Maia (20 Tauri): Named after the oldest Pleiades sister.

    * Merope (23 Tauri): Named after one of the sisters who married a mortal man.

    * Taygeta (19 Tauri): Named after one of the Pleiades sisters.

    * Celaeno (16 Tauri): Named after one of the Pleiades sisters.

    * Asterope (21 Tauri): Named after one of the Pleiades sisters.

    * Sterope (22 Tauri): Named after one of the Pleiades sisters.

The Pleiades are also sometimes referred to as the "Seven Sisters" because of their prominent mythology. However, there are more than seven stars in the cluster.
