  • Scorpius Constellation: History & Ancient Origins
The constellation Scorpius wasn't "found" in the sense of a new discovery. It's one of the oldest constellations known, recognized by ancient civilizations thousands of years ago.

    Here's what we know:

    * Ancient Babylonian Astronomy: Records from 3000 BC mention Scorpius, and it was associated with the god Nergal.

    * Ancient Egyptian Astronomy: The Egyptians also recognized Scorpius and associated it with the goddess Serket, a protector against venomous creatures.

    * Ancient Greek Mythology: The Greeks saw the constellation as the scorpion that killed Orion, the hunter.

Therefore, the constellation Scorpius has been recognized for at least 5,000 years, if not longer. It's a part of the oldest star patterns known to humans.
