  • Star Lifespan: How Old Are Stars Compared to Our Sun?
It depends on the star! Here's why:

    * Stars have different lifespans: Stars come in different sizes and masses. Larger stars burn hotter and faster, so they have shorter lifespans. Smaller stars burn cooler and slower, and they live much longer.

    * The Sun is a "middle-aged" star: Our Sun is about 4.6 billion years old and is considered a middle-aged star. It's expected to live for another 5 billion years or so.

Here's how to think about it:

    * Younger stars: There are many stars younger than our Sun. These would likely be smaller and cooler.

    * Older stars: There are also stars much older than our Sun. These would be bigger and hotter and are probably nearing the end of their lives.

In short, you can't say a star is definitely older or younger than the Sun without knowing more about the star's size and type.
