  • Understanding Solar Heating: Infrared & Visible Light
The Sun emits a wide range of electromagnetic radiation, but the main heating rays that reach Earth are infrared radiation and visible light.

    * Infrared radiation is responsible for the warmth we feel from the Sun. It's invisible to our eyes but we can feel it as heat.

    * Visible light is the light we see, and it also contributes to heating the Earth. The different wavelengths of visible light correspond to different colors, and the combination of all these colors is what we perceive as white light.

While a small amount of other radiation, like ultraviolet radiation, reaches Earth, it's primarily these two types that provide the majority of the Sun's heating energy.
