  • Why is the Moon Invisible? Understanding the New Moon Phase
The moon doesn't actually "not reflect any light" when it's not visible. The moon always reflects sunlight, but we can't see it during the new moon phase.

    Here's why:

    * The new moon is when the moon is between the Earth and the Sun.

    * The side of the moon facing Earth is not illuminated by the sun. This means the moon is essentially invisible to us.

It's still there, just not reflecting any light towards Earth!
