  • Alpheratz (Alpha Andromedae): Properties, Characteristics & Composition
    Alpheratz (also known as Alpha Andromedae) is a blue-white giant star.

    Here's a breakdown of its characteristics:

    * Spectral type: B8IVp

    * Color: Blue-white

    * Temperature: Approximately 11,000 K (19,540 °F)

    * Luminosity: About 100 times that of our Sun

    * Mass: Approximately 3.6 times the mass of our Sun

    * Size: Roughly 3 times the radius of our Sun

    The "p" in its spectral type indicates that it is a peculiar star. This means its chemical composition is different from what is expected for a star of its spectral type. Alpheratz has a high abundance of certain elements, including mercury, manganese, and strontium.

    It's also worth noting that Alpheratz was once considered to be part of the Andromeda constellation, but is now officially classified as part of Pegasus.
