  • Aristarchus of Samos: The First to Propose a Heliocentric Model
The first person to propose that the Earth revolves around the Sun was Aristarchus of Samos in the 3rd century BC.

However, it's important to note that:

    * His idea was not widely accepted at the time. The prevailing view was that the Earth was the center of the universe (geocentric model).

    * It wasn't until much later, with the work of Nicolaus Copernicus in the 16th century, that the heliocentric model gained significant traction. Copernicus's work, *De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium*, helped to shift the scientific understanding of the solar system.

Therefore, while Aristarchus is credited with the first heliocentric model, it wasn't until Copernicus that the idea became influential and ultimately accepted by the scientific community.
