  • Winter Solstice: When the Sun is Lowest in the Sky
The sun is lowest in the sky on the winter solstice.

This occurs around December 21st or 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere and June 20th or 21st in the Southern Hemisphere.

During the solstice, the sun reaches its lowest point above the horizon for that hemisphere. This means that the days are shortest and the nights are longest on this day.
