  • Sir William Herschel and the Uranus Orbit Anomaly: A Historical Astronomy Mystery
The astronomer who noticed a strange pattern in the orbit of Uranus was Sir William Herschel.

He discovered Uranus in 1781, and over the following decades, astronomers noticed discrepancies between its observed orbit and the one predicted by Newtonian physics. These discrepancies led to the eventual discovery of Neptune in 1846, as it was theorized that an unseen massive object was gravitationally affecting Uranus.
