  • John William Draper's Groundbreaking Lunar Photography: The First Image of the Moon
The first photographic image of the Moon was taken by John William Draper in 1840.

While there are some earlier attempts at capturing the Moon on photographic plates, Draper's image is generally recognized as the first successful photograph. He used a daguerreotype process, capturing an image of the Moon through a 5-inch refracting telescope.
