The brightest star in the night sky, visible to the naked eye, is Sirius, also known as the Dog Star. It's part of the constellation Canis Major.

However, there's a bit of a technicality. Sirius isn't actually the brightest star in the entire universe. It just appears brightest from our perspective on Earth.

There are many stars in the universe that are much brighter than Sirius, but they are much further away, making them appear fainter from Earth.
