  • The Sun's Movement: Orbit, Wobble & Internal Dynamics - SpaceFacts
The Sun is definitely not static. It's constantly moving in several ways:

    * Orbiting the Milky Way: The Sun, along with our entire solar system, is orbiting the center of the Milky Way galaxy. This orbit takes about 225-250 million years to complete!

    * Wobbling: The Sun is not perfectly still within its orbit. It wobbles due to the gravitational pull of the planets, especially the gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn.

    * Internal movement: The Sun's core is constantly undergoing nuclear fusion, which generates energy and causes the Sun to expand and contract slightly.

    * Solar wind: The Sun constantly emits a stream of charged particles known as the solar wind, which travels outwards into space. This also contributes to the Sun's movement.

While the Sun may appear stationary from our perspective on Earth, it's actually in constant motion within the vastness of space.
