  • Comets and Planets: Do Comets Orbit Planets?
No, comets do not orbit planets. Comets orbit the Sun, just like planets do. They have highly elliptical orbits that take them far out into the solar system and then back close to the Sun.

While a comet might pass close to a planet, it wouldn't be orbiting it. The planet's gravity might slightly alter the comet's path, but it wouldn't be enough to make the comet a satellite of the planet.
