    The line that separates the light and dark sides of the Moon is called the terminator.

    It's not a physical feature on the Moon's surface, but rather the boundary between the sunlit portion (day) and the unlit portion (night). As the Moon orbits Earth, the terminator constantly shifts, causing the visible illuminated area to change.
