There's a beautiful myth about Orion, though, and how he came to be in the sky:
The Myth:
Orion was a giant hunter known for his strength and skill. He boasted that he could kill every animal on Earth, which angered the goddess Gaia (the Earth). She sent a scorpion to kill Orion. The two fought fiercely, and ultimately, the scorpion killed Orion.
To honor Orion, Zeus, the king of the gods, placed Orion in the sky as a constellation, along with the scorpion (Scorpius). The two are placed on opposite sides of the sky, so they can never meet again.
The Reality:
The stars that make up Orion are actually very distant from each other, and only appear close because we see them from so far away. They are also very old - much older than any human myths.
So, while Orion the hunter was a product of imagination and storytelling, the stars themselves formed through natural processes billions of years ago.
