  • Planets and Other Celestial Bodies Orbiting the Sun: A Solar System Overview
    The large objects that revolve around the Sun are called planets.

    Here are the eight planets in our solar system, in order from closest to the Sun to furthest:

    * Mercury

    * Venus

    * Earth

    * Mars

    * Jupiter

    * Saturn

    * Uranus

    * Neptune

    In addition to planets, there are other large objects that orbit the Sun:

    * Dwarf planets: These are celestial bodies that are large enough to be rounded by their own gravity, but haven't cleared their orbital neighborhood of other objects. Some examples include Pluto, Ceres, and Eris.

    * Asteroids: These are rocky bodies that orbit the Sun, mainly found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

    * Comets: These are icy bodies that orbit the Sun in highly elliptical paths. They become visible when they get close enough to the Sun that the ice vaporizes, creating a tail.

    While these are the major objects orbiting the Sun, there are also smaller objects like moons, meteoroids, and dust particles.
