  • Mars' Magnetic Field: Strength, History & Why It's Different From Earth's
Mars has one magnetic field, but it's very weak and patchy compared to Earth's.

    Here's why:

    * Mars lost its global magnetic field billions of years ago. This is likely due to its molten core cooling and solidifying.

    * It now has localized magnetic fields. These are remnants of the ancient magnetic field and are strongest around the planet's southern hemisphere.

    * These localized fields are much weaker than Earth's. They're only about 1% as strong as the magnetic field we experience on Earth.

So, while Mars does have a magnetic field, it's significantly different and weaker than Earth's global magnetic field.
