    * Solar and Lunar Eclipses: Ancient astronomers observed and recorded solar and lunar eclipses. They developed methods to predict their occurrence, though their understanding of the underlying causes was limited.

    * Star Patterns and Constellations: People across the globe identified patterns in the stars and named them constellations. These patterns were used for navigation, timekeeping, and religious purposes.

    * Comets: Comets were observed and seen as harbingers of change or divine messages. The Chinese kept meticulous records of comet appearances.

    * The Babylonians: Developed sophisticated mathematical methods to predict astronomical events, including lunar eclipses and planetary positions.

    The advent of the telescope revolutionized astronomy by allowing astronomers to see much fainter and more distant objects, leading to the discovery of new planets, moons, and galaxies. However, the foundation of modern astronomy was laid by centuries of meticulous observation and recording of the heavens, made possible by the human eye alone.
