Here's why:
* Venus's rotation is retrograde: It spins on its axis in the opposite direction to the way it orbits the Sun. This means the Sun rises in the west and sets in the east on Venus.
* Venus's rotation period is slow: It takes about 243 Earth days for Venus to complete one rotation.
* Venus's orbital period is short: It takes about 225 Earth days for Venus to orbit the Sun.
Because Venus rotates so slowly and orbits so quickly, it completes a little more than 1.5 rotations for every orbit around the Sun.
