* Clouds: Rain is caused by clouds, and clouds block the light from stars. The dense water droplets and ice crystals in the clouds scatter and absorb starlight, making it impossible to see through them.
* Light Pollution: Rain often occurs at night, and even if the clouds were thin, the light from cities and other sources would still make it difficult to see stars.
However, there are a few exceptions:
* Very light rain: If there is a very light drizzle or mist, and there's little light pollution, you might be able to catch a glimpse of a few bright stars.
* Clear spots: Sometimes, there might be a small patch of clear sky between clouds during a rain shower, allowing a peek at the stars.
* High altitude: If you are at a very high altitude, above most of the clouds, you might be able to see the stars even during rain.
In general, though, rain and stargazing don't mix very well!
