  • Kepler's Unsolved Mystery: The Force Behind Planetary Motion
Kepler was unable to answer the question of why the planets moved in the way he described.

He formulated his famous laws of planetary motion, which accurately described the elliptical orbits of planets and their speeds, but he couldn't explain the underlying force causing these motions.

It was Isaac Newton, building on Kepler's work, who later provided the answer with his law of universal gravitation. Newton explained that the planets move as they do because of the force of gravity between them and the Sun.
